TCSI Ubuntu Blog

We started our Ubuntu Linux installations!

The first few days were nerve-wracking hehehe - well, simply because we are noobs!

Some problems encountered (which was easily solved later thru research, patience and hard work):

1. Mounting of floppies and cds - solved using an update of the pmount

2. Making our old dot matrix printers work.
(Note: The printers' output when printing from the Text Editor are not very readable. Better, open text files in a word processing program like Ooo Writer, assign fonts and print from there.)

3. Detecting our serial modems for use with dial-up internet connection

4. Swapping serial/ps2 mouse

5. Dual-boot Ubuntu/WinXP/WinME

6. Make WiFi work on my notebook

All that is left for me now is:

1. Refine our LAN (including internet sharing, communicate with Windows-based machines, sharing of devices)
2. Make our scanners work (parallel and USB)
3. Install a fax software
4. Run Windows-based software
